We have stayed close to many of our college friends from AU. luckily for us, the first of those friends to have children was a family who stayed in the VA area. As we see the parents so often, we have watched their child grow from infant to a boy of 5.
As we can look at photos from the past 5 years and see Ethan's toys or Ethan himself in so many, we had a special Ethan birthday party last night. This was for what he considers his grown up friends. Sometimes this is cute, as when he goes to bed hugging us each and asking if we will all still be there in the morning. Sometimes this is not so cute, as when he yells at mom or dad that he wants to play with us.
We hope the paybacks are worth it, as we got Ethan the beginning of a kid size drum and percussion set. As we left last night, he already had all the instruments out and was banging on the drum portion. He has logged some time on his parents Xbox Rock Band game, so there was a definite rhythm to the banging.
We can only hope they forget this and other gifts we have given in the past.
This weekend Ethan gets the party at the park with his other 5 year old friends. With the party last night we have an easy out for not attending that one.
