This weekend was a throw back to the dog days of summer. With the temps in the high 80s and high humidity, I was missing the A/C. This prompted a group trip to the Maryland Renaissance Faire.
It occurs yearly on a farm with permanent structures. By permanent I mean a year round one and two story wooden rustic robin hood style village.
We entered the park through the front entrance, and with the men leading with their noses found the first little hut with steak on a stake. Yes, a literal pepper seasoned steak on a wooden stake.
Then the girls got to lead with their eyes to the costume shops while the boys munched away. I made a detour into a carpenters store for a finely crafted wooden mug. If you want to imagine it just think of the Indiana Jones movie The Last Crusade except all wood and no metal.
Then it was off to fill the cup with some sweet local MD wine. Then as we had a five year old with the group it was off to the games. Yes, they have games akin to medieval carny games - axe throwing, knife throwing, archery, etc. The prizes are also medieval carny style with wooden carved medals on bits of string.
Overall a good day as it took my mind partially off the muggy weather. This did cut our time short, so we missed any of the productions they had going. As we walked past we did see comedy on one stage, live Scottish music on another and a play at yet another.
