Ike!

There are two reasons we have been following Ike as it forces it's way through the Gulf of Mexico. The first reason is the family we have in Houston. After chatting last night and realizing they are more worried about what the crazies around them then the storm, I feel better. While Houston still has not be ordered a mandatory evacuation, most employers let out around 2pm. This way people could actually start trying to board up, pack up or stock up as needed.

The other reason we followed it was due to Greg being put on alert. He has loved his new detail at work, and you can really see a difference his team has made when disasters happen all across the country. It amazed me the first time I watched and heard all the involvement. Now it seems normal that they had trucks of water driving through the night to be available in Houston as soon as the winds die down. Even little items like flash lights for emergency crews has to be not just stored in advance of any storm, but then actually makes it's way on time to be of help.

Today Greg gets a short break as others take call, but then Saturday he is back on for post storm help. He normally gets a good feeling knowing he is helping folks out, but this time he also gets to help family by random chance.
