Greg and I took our bikes out for a spin along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. We started at lock 8 and wound down to Great Falls on the MD side. The river was running high, and the photos do not do justice to the power felt in the rushing waves and spray.
We stopped to watch a young lab learn to stay on his owners kayak for a ride. Before you ask, they were still in the learning process when we left. If not for all the people, enticing water and eye catching items in the water it may have worked.
Hooking up our bikes, we did some off-roading on foot. We listened to the water beating the rocks, a bird calling to its mate and the almost muted chatter civilization. With a bite of apple and guzzle of water, it was time to start again.
After completing our round trip, we headed back to the car. Our legs could have gone further, but my seat was killing me. It is a comfort seat, but lack of riding for over a year made a big difference.
Next time we will have to push a little further and a little harder. We may even one day try the 3 day full C&O trail. First I want to hit a few hours in the saddle.
