Camping

So we hit the good ol' Prince William Forest in VA this past weekend with friends. The group varies, but the fun does not. This national park adjoins Quantico, VA and has 37 miles of hiking trails. Though the occasional plane can be heard soaring a few hundred feet over head. Most noises are just the wind in the trees, birds calling to each other or a snake telling you to back off.

Saturday turned out to be sunny, but still cool. So a perfect day for hiking all around. I could have done without the snakes, but I probably should have looked in that sun lit area right by the water before stepping down!

Gertie and Mik joined us for the hike. This called for some trailblaizing off the normal paths. While Greg went along, he is more a job and power hike a used trail. We all lived with only a few scraps, one girly scream and some photos to show.

Tim, Trina, Brad and Ethan were at the camp site when we cruised back over. Tents were assembled and then it was time for the bonfire. A clue about our camping it more about the drink and fire for most of the group, so this was the pinnacle for them. About an hour or two later we had a small pocket of flame and heat. Not enough for food, but the boys were proud.

Through the dwindling evening, we only had one park ranger come by to tell us we were a little too loud. Shortly after everyone in the group either voluntarily or through coercion got into their beds.

Sunday dawned to Ethan's excited voice about the ant in his any case. In general a one sided conversation but we all sluggishly roused from the tents to a grey wet morning. In minutes we had the tents and accessories put away. I have to credit the coming rain for that incentive for speed.

Breakfast was left over fajita chicken, onions and peppers mixed with eggs and wrapped in a tortilla. Beans and bacon abounded as well. The bacon made for some real life teachings that water is not used to put out an oil fire! The fire will also not implode or stay lit for hours longer do to added grease. It is however harder to contain, as the fire will follow the liquid.

Over all a good breakfast that the boys threw together. Not bad at all!

With five gallons of water, the fire was extinguished and everyone was off to home or stores.

The rest of the day was spent trying to forget I had work on Monday :)
