Though a small group, today's book club was all about The Russian Concubine. Michelle and Kaela were the only two who could make it, but it turned out smaller may be better for this book. While the story was easy to read, it did create lots of post reading discssion.
Some of our past books have led to discussions of similarities. Basically everyone reading the book was from a similar past and the topic of the book so foreign there was mutual agreement on what we still wanted to know, what we felt, etc.
This book did bring back my college Imperialism class, but even for those non-history lovers the book had romance and action.
The author's mother was a Russian refugee in China as the main character, though the city in the book is fictional and the events are completely fictional.
Post book club we went to see 'A School of Scandal' at the Folger. We had balcony seats, so the whole time I was bouncing between watching the play and looking at the recreated Shakespearean theater. Greg even joined us.
