Roller Derby!

Today we headed to our first Roller Derby at the Washington National Armory.

The basic rules are simple: The game is broken into 2 30 minutes halves. Each half is broken into a jam. Each jam is two minutes long and does not have the same participants.

Each jam has a jammer who scores points by passing the other team skating around the oval course. The other four team members are blockers who help their jammer or stop the other jammer from scoring points.

I have to admit it was less violent then I thought it would be, since it was an exhibition there were actually two games back to back. The primary second game were the two DC teams. It was obvious they have practices and have planned team strategies.

Not sure that we would go again, but it was cool to see what it was all about.
