We decided to celebrate our anniversary with a dinner and a show. Greg got us tickets to Kooza, the traveling Cirque du Soleil show.
This gave us a chance to see some of the new National Harbor. Just across the Potomac River from National Airport and Old Town Alexandria. The area is still largely under construction, but most of the water front area is completed. With a few hotels, high end shops, boardwalk area, water taxis to old town and a massive conventional center.
The view to downtown was cool, and the wonderful winter evening added a cool ambiance. I would describe parts of it as 'Disney.' For instance on the half hour, the lights would change along with the airy music playing in the background.
The Gaylord convention center has a large atrium with plants and river walk with Koa. We ended up at Coastal Moon, which had a pier along the internal stream. We got a table right next to the water with a good view of the fountain.
After dinner and another walk, we headed over to the big tent. The show was awesome, and I would say more adult then the normal circus show. The contortionist were probably the best part of the show, but each group was able to astound in their own ways. We were a little surprised at three big mess ups (back flips that end with face plants and high wire jumps that end with the acrobat dangling from one arm). It was probably one of the best compilation of multiple types of art into one.
